Laura Fleischer (Owner)

Masters of Speech Pathology, Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). MA. SP Path. BA Teach (Prim)

After working for Disability Services Queensland and Autism Queensland the opportunity arose for me to open Language and Speech in late 2010. Giving me the opportunity to do what I love, work with children and support their families to develop their speech, language and/or literacy skills.

My particular areas of interest are:

Children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Aspergers and Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified).

I enjoy the variety of skills and interests that children with this diagnosis have. I also enjoy getting to know their likes and dislikes and tailoring therapy to their needs so we get the most engagement and interaction from in their sessions.

Literacy (phonological awareness).

My 5 years as a primary school teacher, prior to becoming a speech pathologist, has developed an ongoing interest in the field of literacy. I enjoy continually learning about new and innovative ways to engage children and develop their skills so they can participate in their classroom environment more successfully.

Children with challenging behaviour.

I enjoy the ‘challenge’ of working with children to understand and develop their communication and language skills. I also like working in partnership with their communication partners to develop their knowledge and understanding in relation to the role that communication and language can play in children’s behaviour.

I have always had a strong passion to work with children and assist them to learn and communicate. I therefore pursued a career in speech pathology and find it very rewarding to support children of all ages to reach their potential. I strive to ensure that each child that comes to therapy has a fun and enjoyable experience.

My particular areas of interest are:

Children with speech sound production difficulties

I enjoy assisting children to learn to produce new sounds and assist them to use this sound in a variety of environments in order to participate successfully in communication with family, friends and other important people.

Children with social skills difficulties

I enjoy assisting children to learn appropriate social skills in order to communicate effectively in a range of situations.

Children with fluency (stuttering) difficulties

I have an interest in working with children of all ages who present with fluency difficulties and enjoy assisting them to successfully learn techniques to communicate fluently.

Children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Aspergers and Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified).

I enjoy supporting children with ASD and their families to better communicate and believe it is important to understand each child’s interests and needs in order to implement an individualised therapy program.

I have always wanted to find a career path helping people, and after tossing up many different options at school I stumbled upon Speech Pathology. I grew up and studied in South Australia, where I completed my Bachelor of Speech Pathology at Flinders University. Throughout the course, I was lucky enough to be involved in many different areas and with a wide range of clients. I have always loved working with children and their families. I believe building relationships with family is one of the most important ways to help children reach their potential both at school and at home.

I enjoy working with all children on their communication, to ensure that they can communicate effectively with teachers, family and their peers. I am lucky enough to see children in a wide range of areas, including at school, at home and at the clinic. I enjoy getting to know the children I work with, and seeing them develop and grow their communication skills.

My particular areas of interest are:

I have particular interest in working with children who have speech or language difficulties, children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and children who have difficulty with literacy.
